Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Apply?
Complete an initial application.
- Click the “Apply Now” button on this page to apply online to our waiting list(s). If you experience difficulty with the online application, you can receive a hard copy by emailing us at applications@doverhousingauthority.org, calling our office, or stopping by our main office at 62 Whitter Street, Dover, NH.
- There is no cost to apply for any DHA program. DHA will never ask for any payment information from you.
Wait for the initial application to be processed.
- If you’ve applied online, you’ll receive an immediate notification that you’ve been added to our waiting lists.
- If you’ve applied with a paper application, processing your application will take approximately two weeks; once your application is processed, the applicant will receive a letter in the mail confirming they have been added to the Waitlist(s).
- It is your responsibility to keep your address, email and phone number updated with the Dover Housing Authority in writing. You must also report all changes in household composition as this could affect bedroom size eligibility. You can submit changes to applications@doverhousingauthority.org.
- When a unit or voucher is available and the applicant is high enough on the Waitlist, they will be contacted to fill out the full application. Applicants will receive an email, letter, or phone call from the Dover Housing Authority when their application reaches the top of the Waitlist.
- If you do not respond to DHA regarding completing the full application and determining eligibility, you will be removed from all waitlists.
How long is the waitlist for housing?
The wait for housing varies upon a variety of factors and can be difficult to predict. Unfortunately, the wait for housing or housing assistance can vary between a year to several years.
How do I find out my position on the waitlist?
DHA does not give out waitlist placement positions. Any further questions can be emailed to applications@doverhousingauthority.org
Can I apply for any bedroom size?
DHA determines subsidy or bedroom size based on household composition. If you apply for a bedroom size you do not qualify for, you will be placed on the appropriate bedroom size waitlist.
If I owed money to another housing authority, will I still be eligible?
No. If you owe money to another Housing Authority you will not be eligible. All debt to any Housing Authority must be paid before becoming eligible. However, you can still put your name on our Waitlist.
Does DHA offer emergency housing?
- Dover Housing Authority does not provide emergency housing. All new housing applicants are taken from the Waitlist.
